exciting news and fascinating people

first thing on today's agenda to talk about: exciting news!
i. was. offered. a. job.
it took 3 months,
at least 50 applications,
and 5 interviews.
it finally happened.
it's a huge reminder that when i do completely let go of things and let God have control,
that God does have control and provides when needed.
kenny and i went out to celebrate last night.

now that i have my super exciting news out, lets talk about fascinating people.
2012's most fascinating people to be exact.
how does one come up with this list, and why are some of the people listed...listed?
what exactly makes a person fascinating?
case and point:
that. is not fascinating. well...at least not to me.
to each his own, right?
but then we have poor taylor...
who is fascinating not only because of her career,
but because she has dated 13 guys in four years.
and none of them will ever get back together with her.
pun intended. sorry...couldn't resist!

does everyone know that i can lick my elbow, and i am double jointed in both shoulders?
it's fascinating, i know.
so really, everyone could be on the most fascinating people list in their own way, right?

i hope everyone has a fascinating thursday :)

dear december,

dear december,
just like i questioned october and november: how are you here already?
i have officially been in michigan for 3 months, and loving it.
i went to my first christmas party last weekend and with a team effort made this gingerbread town:

obviously we won that little contest.
hope your having a great week!
cheers to the weekend!

christmas pinning

the closer and closer that christmas gets,
the more excited i am!
i love christmas!
the lights,
the trees,
christmas colors,
christmas movies,
i could go on and on :)
i have been super bundled up going out the last couple weeks.
but this ain't nothin yet!
im praying that michigan goes easy on winter this year,
this girl has got to get adjusted!

happy hump day,
we're halfway through the week!
and of course,

stay warm.

catching up

last week i only made an entry on thanksgiving...which was wonderful!
not only did i eat plenty of yummy food, i was really blessed to be with my new family.
i was truly feeling very thankful for how warm and welcomed i felt sitting at the table surrounded by my new family on thanksgiving.

a little more than a week ago, november 17th, was my birthday.
it was a weekend celebration!
on friday night we went to dinner with friends and then back to the house for cake,
saturday kenny and i went to the michigan vs. iowa game.
that. was. awesome.
and then on sunday night kenny's family threw a birthday party for me!

although these pictures are just from my phone, i wanted/needed to share picture of the game with you!

i just know that 25 is going to be a great year!

thankful thursday

gobble gobble ya'll :)
time is seriously flying right out the window these past few months!
i cannot believe that it is already thanksgiving!
while some of you celebrate with this:

...shopping at 8pm thanksgiving day.
the rest of us are vegged out on the couch after eating what feels like a whole turkey
not only once, but twice.

so this is the first year that i will be celebrating thanksgiving away from home.
away from the family that i have celebrated every holiday with for the past 25 years.
thats okay though because this brings me to what im thankful for this year...

im thankful for new family that constantly shows me that they love me,
for my family understanding that now there will be holidays that we might not share in person,
for new friends who have taken me in and taken care of me,
for a source of income almost immediately after moving to a new state,
and for another year behind me and a life ahead of me that will be shared with the love of my life.

sometimes it is hard to be thankful.
especially when things are not going the way WE want them to.
but think more simply.
what are you surrounded by everyday that you are thankful for?

well, im going to head out and start feasting,
and also soak up some family time with some "new" family.
i hope everyone has a wonderful thanksgiving,
and dont forget the whipped cream on top of your pumpkin pie!

when life gives you apples...

although there was a shortage of apples in michigan this year,
apple crisp became the staple desert this fall.

when life gives you apples, make apple crisp!
lets just say that i got really good at peeling apples this year.
so here is what to do:

- 9x13 inch pan
- 10 cups off apples (mcintosh works best because it is a softer apple)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 tbs all-purpose flour
- 1 tbs ground cinnamon

- 1/2 cup of water

- 1 cup quick-cooking oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup butter, melted

1. oven should be preheated to 350 degrees.

2. place the peeled and sliced apples in the pan. mix the white sugar, 1 tbs of flour, and ground cinnamon together separately, and sprinkle over apples. pour 1/2 cup of water evenly over apples.

3. combine the oats, 1 cup flour, 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 cup of melted butter together. mix well.

4. Bake for about 45 minutes.

enjoy the finished product :)

and after you have shared it with others, your pan should look a little bit like this:

hope your monday is a good one!

Just do something...

if you follow me on instagram, you may have seen this picture last saturday morning.
i could have taken the same exact picture this morning!
so yes, i recycled a picture.
the point of this post is not about old pictures, i promise.
the point of this post is to share the above book with you: Just Do Something, by Kevin DeYoung.
this book has come at great timing n my life because i am goign through some major life changes:
moving far away, trying to find a job, making all new friends..etc.
we're reading this book in church class, and last week i was really challenged to live more simply.
the auther asks his gramdpa how he thought about fulfilling God's will in his life.
and the response is: "i never thought about fulfillment. i had a job. i ate. i lived. i raised my family. i went to church. i was thankful."
grandpa didn't have as many choices for job, school...really anything, that we do today.
but here was the challenge to me: can i change my focus from trying to decipher and fulfill God's will in my life to more of a focus on spending more time with the Lord , and just doing things, rather than spending a ton of time trying to figure out if i like what i'm going to do?
we do have too many choices, which for me causes a struggle with indecision.
i ask that everything would be fine, and to know that everything would be fine.
i begin expecting too much, and being disappointed when every experience isn't rewarding.
this book states the obvious: "showing the future is not God's way...we should have confidence in God's will of decree so  that we can radically commit ourselves to His will of desire without fretting over a hidden wall of direction...God doesn't takes risks, so we can"

something to think about.

i could probably write a book on this book, but i'm not going.
but i do suggest reading it!
it has been challenging to me so far, especially since i have been making a lot of decisions lately.

Ecclesiastes 7:14
"when times are good, be happy;
but when times are bad, consider this:
God has made the one
as well as the other.
therefore, no one can discover
anything about their future."

the holiday season

as fall comes and goes we enter: the holiday season.
i love love love this time of year!
dressing cozy and warm
my birthday
new years
all times where i am able to get together with friends and family!
i want to get crafty and make decorations
i like to send cards in the mail
i love the holidays!

november brings thanksgiving and this year i am especially thankful for:
a great living situation,
good health,
new beginnings,
and the health and safety of my family!

Happy Birthday!!

today is november 1st.
today marks the first day of my birthday month! woop woop!!
this year is a huge year...
im getting married,
experiencing my first michigan winter,
living the furthest I ever have from my family,
learning to live by a new budget,
and preparing to spend the rest of my life with my best friend-and continually growing in our relationship.

this november 17th i turn 25.
i guess im getting old :)

...older and wiser though!

life lately...

one last warm day in michigan,
getting some major use out of my rain boots,
grand rapids griffins game with friends,
seeing lots of turkeys roaming around...they better watch their backs!
carving pumpkins with friends,
mexican date,
annd just a reflection of me in the fireplace at biggby :)

hope your having a great week friends!

update: my family has made it through the storm safely with no flooding, but will be with out power for about a week as of right now. keep in mind all of those along the east coast who have been effected!

sandy pants

you know sandy?
hurricane sandy?
she's hitting the east coast with some major fury.
considering my family lives right in her danger zone, this is all i can think about today.
so, this is why i'm writing about sandy pants.
my parents, and siblings live in new jersey.
right in the path of hurricane sandy.
thankfully, they live far enough from the coast that high tide this afternoon won't drown their house.
BUT they are getting downpouring rain, wind at 40+ mph, and power outage.
and they are most definitely still being flooded.
and all this is happening before the storm actually hits the coast.
yep, at 5pm EST it is still currently 50+miles off shore, but speeding in.

my family is right near the bullseye.
so if you think of it today, and tomorrow...keep those that live on the east coast in your prayers!
especially those that live right on the shoreline as they will be slammed the most when high tide hits this evening!

i hope those effected stay safe!

in my makeup bag...part II

everyone ready for more makeup?
as i said in my last post, today im going to cover what i use for my eyes
as well as my most frequently used brushes.

for my eyes, i keep it basic with eyeliner, mascara, and neutral shadows.
surprisingly i have a much bigger selection of shadow not shown
but, again, this is my turn to, everyday palate by artistry (see here).
for a thinner liner i use e.l.f. waterproof eyeliner pen (see here).
this eyeliner is $1. no joke. STEAL OF A DEAL.
for more of a smudged look, i use bareMinerals round the clock waterproof eyeliner(see here).
it comes in a lot of different shades, but i currently have "10pm".
a recent find is the prime time brightening eyelid primer by bareMinerals.(see here)
it is a very sheer nude color with a little sparkle that can be worn alone, or as a base for shadow.

i would like to say that i stand by one type of mascara, but i dont.
i havent found that one perfect mascara yet.
currently i am using define-a-lash by maybellene (see here).

last but not least...my most frequently used brushes.
from left to right:
laura mercier face brush (see here)
laura mercier ponytail/all over eye colour double head brush (similar)
laura mercier blush face brush (similar)
laura mercier smudge/flat eyeliner double head brush (similar)
laura mercier finishing brush (see here)
eco tools foundation face brush (see here)

to put it plainly, the laura mercier makeup/accessories were all gifts,
once those brushes are bad, i will be buying eco tools brushes as replacements.
eco tools are much less expensive and great quality!

that completes my makeup bag!

you can register for free AND you can browse based on skin type :)

hope everyone is having a terrific tuesday!

in my makeup bag...

i am most certainly not a makeup fanatic.
i have never liked wearing a lot of make up,
and have always taken a simple approach.
nonetheless, today i decided to share what is in my makeup bag.

im just going to cover my basic everydayish wear starting with primer and concealer:

for concealer i have always used the neutrogena healthy skin smoothing stick (see here)
and just recently i started using laura mercier foundation primer (see here)
i was given some for a gift and love it!
up next is foundation.
i have used both liquid and powder foundation in the past but currently powder foundation is what works best with my skin.
bareMinerals original foundation is my favorite (see here)
its feels light on my skin and lasts pretty long compared to others that i have tried.
if your looking for a cheaper option, the neutrogena mineral sheers loose powder foundation (see here)
i turn to this when i am on a tighter budget, its a great option (see below)!

for bronzer i go cheap.
i actually use a powder by N.Y.C. that is only $4.99
it's called color wheel mosaic face powder and it works perfectly for my skin!
sometimes bronzer can just look too dark and unnatural or too glittery-this blends perfectly!
i do believe that my next favorite has been discontinued...sad.
again, i received it as a gift and it is my favorite color blush!
below is the apricot face tint by laura mercier (see here)

tomorrow i'll share my most commonly used brushes,
and eye make-up.
what are your favorites??

until tomorrow...

Youtubin' wonders

these two are not only cute, but SUPER talented! i saw Lennon and
Maisy on the news the other morning and decided to look them up. their youtube videos got them both and acting spot on the new show Nashville. how cool is that? I just had to share.

my weekend has been filled with friends
pumpkin carving,
apple crisp,
michigan state vs michigan (go blue!)
and family.

get out and enjoy the fall weather!!
(if you have seasons where you live...)

The old ball game

it's no secret that kenny is a sports guru. i really admire that he has such a passion and so much knowledge for not just one sport but pretty much all of them. ANYWAY if anyone out there in the blogging world watches baseball, they know that the detroit tigers are playing it up in the post season. so kenny bought us tickets to go see the game this past wednesday night.

so we make the drive over to detroit, about 2.5 hours. once we get there, we go to hockeytown cafe for dinner, and after dinner head to comerica park, which is right across the street. about 15 mins before the game start time kenny makes a comment on how strange it is that none of the players have been out warming up. and just a few minutes before the scheduled start time, they make an announcement that the games will be delayed due to inclement weather. this was puzzling to the packed out stadium because it was not raining-it was actually a beautiful night out, perfect for baseball. so we sat for nearly 2 hours waiting for the game to get started only to be disappointed when the game got postponed until thursday night.

i was super bummed because i had to work the next day and couldnt go. kenny was able to get a friend to take my place and go to the game on thursday night to watch the tigers win the series which placed them in the world series!!

and this, my friends, was the exciting part of my week!

hope you had a great week as well :)
